The immensely dense settlement of Kathmandu Valley is exploring possibilities of greening the city by promoting Kausi Kheti– the rooftop farming. The continuously increasing vegetable price and the unsafe and poor quality of vegetables found in the market is attracting urban population to this green solution. Management of waste and waste water at household level, and addressing the climate change agenda by reducing the carbon footprint and increasing adaptability, municipalities are encouraged to promote this sustainable alternative. To promote self-initiation of those interested UN-Habitat along with its partners has published the rooftop farming training manual. This Do It Yourself type manual is expected to help to start farming by self-initiators.
